WHAT IS GONORRHEA?
Gonorrhea is one of the most common human sexually transmitted infection (STD) caused by the bacteria bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. It can grow very fast in the warm and moist areas of the reproductive tract, including the cervix, utreus, fallopian tubes in woman, and in the urethea in woman and men. CDC estimated that there are about 820,000 people in the United Stated gets new gonorrhea infections and less than half of these infections re detected and reported to CDC. about 570,000 of them are aged about 15-25.
HOW DO WE GET INFECTED (RISKS) ?
Gonorrhea can only transmitted from vaginal, oral, or anal sex, and it cannot be spreaded by toilets or bathrooms. Men have 20% risk of getting the infection from a single act of vaginal intercourse with an infected woman but the risk for men who have sex with men is higher to get infected. Women have a 60–80% risk of getting the infection from a single act of vaginal intercourse with an infected man. A mother may transmit gonorrhea to her newborn during childbirth when affecting the infant's eyes, it is referred to asophthalrnia neonatorum.
Usually sexually active person has a higher risks of getting gonorrhea and most of them are teenagers and young adults between the age of 15-25.
